ZEN BUDDHISM OF JAPAN
SATORI is a word to define the inner and intuitive experience of Enlightenment. It is also been described as 'seeing your self-nature or looking into one's nature.'
Satori is said to be the central Zen goal which is unexplainable, indescribable, and unintelligible by reason and logic. It is comparable to the experience undergone by the Buddha when he sat under the Bo tree. Satori constitutes a complete understanding of the individual in relation to the universe. Satori usually is achieved only after a period of concentrated preparation and may occur spontaneously as a result of a chance incident, such as a sudden inspiration.
